Internet business plans are essential tools required of any online marketer. If you want to start an online business, you should have a plan to start with, just as you should have, for an offline business. This article will outline what internet business plans are and how to prepare and use them.

Any planning activity starts with an objective. You should know what you are planning for. Therefore, first set a goal. Decide what income you want to earn from your internet business. You can start with a modest target and can revise it upwards after your reaching it. You may start with something like $500 per month from your online business. The second step is to set a time frame for achieving it. You may not be able to reach your target immediately. You need a start up time and in the initial stages, you may be experimenting with some ideas and the results may not be forthcoming quickly. So set a time frame of 2 or 3 months to achieve this. But whatever is the time frame, make it specific. You can say, " I will earn my first $500 before April 30, 2012 and will keep earning $500 every month thereafter."
Once you know your destination, you can map the route. How are you going to reach your target. You may decide to take up affiliate marketing. If you can market a product that pays you a commission of $25 per sale, you will need to make 20 sales per month to earn $500 per month. That's about one sale per day. Does it look reasonable and achievable? If the answer is yes, you can proceed further. Otherwise, you will have to think of additional strategies. You may have to choose a product with a higher commission per sale or you may have to plan for income through other sources like AdSense revenue so that you will be able to reach your target.
Now that you have decided to market a product, decide what product you are going to promote. Do some research on choosing the right niche, one you find easy to work with and with a high potential. You should then choose what product or products you are going to promote. Your choice will be determined by the popularity of the product and the income potential.
The next stage is the most crucial. You have to devise a strategy to promote the product. Are you going to use a free website or host your own website? This will depend on your assessment of how much you could earn using a free website and using your own website. Secondly, you should also decide on the method of promoting your site. Are you going to promote your site using free methods like social networking, social bookmarking, forum posting etc. or are you going to use paid advertisements like Google AdWords, Ezine Ads etc? These decisions will be weighed using a cost benefit analysis.
Lastly, internet business plans should also include time management plans. How much time per day are you going to spend to promote your product?
